Il barbiere di Siviglia · Rossini

Count Almaviva is in love with pretty Rosina, ward of elderly Dr. Bartolo - who intends to marry her himself. With the help of Seville’s clever and well-connected barber, Figaro, the Count gains access to his beloved in disguise. Mayhem ensues in search for love in this traditional comic opera.

Eugene Onegin · Tchaikovsky

Tatiana opens her heart to Eugene Onegin, a mysterious young stranger. He quickly dismisses her advances, and sets into motion an unforgettable story of love, pride, and lost opportunity. Based on the classic Russian novel by Alexander Pushkin.

Don Quichotte · Massenet

March 2, 5, 7, 9, 12 & 14, 2013

Jules Massenet’s late career masterpiece is a lyrical ode to Don Quixote. A flirtatious local beauty inspires an infatuated old man’s adventures. Based loosely on the Cervantes’ novel of the same name and immediately inspired by the play Le chevalier de la longue figure by Jacques Le Lorrain.

AVA alumnus Burak Bilgili returns to sing the title role.

Don Quichotte has been supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through the Philadelphia Music Project.

April 27, 30, May 2, 4, 8 & 11, 2013

The king falls in love with the wife of his best friend and most trusted advisor. A love triangle turns deadly as jealous leads to conspiracy, murder, and betrayal at a masked ball.
